California Modernist and Asian precedents inspired this family home. Comprised of interlocking pavilions arranged around an open two-story atrium, everyone gathers here for meals and conversation. Conversely the compound’s perimeter is more private and contemplative. A great lawn and four extensive landscape gardens offer ample opportunities to commune with nature.

The artful use of the warm palette of materials demonstrates the careful collaborations of stonemasons, woodworkers, and plaster artisans.

Stair treads individually cantilever from the wall for a dynamic expression.

A horizontal clerestory window frames the garden foliage while maintaining privacy for the bedroom.

A cantilevered stone pathway hovers over the garden as it leads from the street level to the main entry. The lighter-colored limestone stairs appear to float over the stone blocks beneath them.
