Chadwick School

Chadwick School has grown significantly since opening in 1935, but the legacy of its founder, Margaret Lee Chadwick, remains a driving force behind the school’s continued development. Now in its 75th year, Chadwick has more than 800 students in kindergarten through Grade 12 and has graduated more than 3,000 students.

In 1938, Chadwick was blessed with a generous donation of land from the Vanderlip family - a 55-acre hilltop parcel on the top of the Palos Verdes Peninsula near Los Angeles, California.  Architect Harwell Hamilton Harris (1903-1990), a protégé of famous early California Modernist architects Richard Neutra and R.M. Schindler, was commissioned to do the master planning as well as several buildings on campus. Harris was one of the early architects practicing regional modernism and he helped to establish the modern ranch character that gave the campus it's timeless indoor/outdoor learning character -or "Open-air learning environment" as Mrs. Chadwick coined it.

In 2007, Chadwick commissioned KAA Design to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the future development and improvement of the campus.  This yearlong process included a brand-extension, logo rework, and new graphic identity package for everything from the school logo and mark to the athletic uniforms, to the Chadwick 75th anniversary campaign.  In addition, the plan established guidelines and standards for all landscape, building and site features, and campus signage and way finding throughout the 55 acres of facilities.   KAA continues to work closely with Chadwick on many fronts including faculty housing alternatives, feasibility studies for new campus facilities including a student center, campus marquee and signage phases, fund raising initiatives, and multiple graphic and landscape projects.  Chadwick also brought KAA in to assist in the graphic design and logo development for it's new Chadwick International School in Songdo, South Korea that opened September 6, 2010.
