Standing proud overlooking the Pacific Coast, this residence is situated on the densely populated south-end of the Manhattan Beach Sand Section. This relaxed yet strong family retreat, built to withstand "a herd of elephants," will serve as a headquarters for a large, close-knit family and a constant flow of friends. Lively and comfortable, this beach oasis is designed for nurturing memories and celebrating of life. Whether it be spending a summer afternoon on the beach and returning for a dip in the beach room pool, entertaining friends and family in the expansive great room, or cozying up in the theater for a friday night family movie, this home will be the ideal location to make memories and cherish the time spent with loved ones.
The architectural language of the residence is centered around simplicity and minimalism - floating and cantilevering rectilinear volumes, progressively lightening to the west, are gently anchored to the earth by solid planar elements. This simplicity is further expressed through the building's contrasting materials palette. Juxtaposed volumes of light and dark rustic modern materials are anchored by solid board-formed concrete planes and accentuated by translucent floor to ceiling glass.
