It was all about the views. With a busy family lifestyle, and the desire for easy, comfortable living, this new 8,500 square foot 4-story residence was designed to embrace and connect with the ocean vistas that spread out from the entire length of the property. The driving design force was to maximize the calming and relaxing effect of the ocean vistas and gentle crashing of the waves on the beach below.

Conceived as a glass pavilion supported by “bookends” of stone, the residence anchors itself to the ground while the upper level delicately balances atop. Hearty materials such as Spanish Cedar and Santa Barbara Sandstone give a sense of rustic simplicity and permanence that the clients desired. North and south upper level terraces connect the living spaces to the outdoors and capitalize on the panoramic ocean views. Floor to ceiling glass doors slide away and the stone floors and wood ceilings continue to the outside creating a seamless connection between indoors and out and embracing the panoramic ocean view beyond.

On the lower level, the beach room and guest suite, open to the neighborhood 'walk street' garden featuring a lawn bordered by native grasses and accented with wooden “bridge” pathways. In the basement the stone “bookend” walls extended down to the foundation, and embrace a wine cellar dining room.
